2018 Black Swan Prize

The Black Swan Prize is one of Australia’s richest Portraiture Prizes and Brookfield Place is once again proud to be hosting both the Youth Prize and the Salon de Refusés Exhibitions as part of the spectacular showcase.

The Black Swan Prize for Portraiture Youth Award challenges young artists to explore their creative talents through the field of portraiture as students and adolescent patients at Princess Margaret Hospital are invited to paint a portrait of a well-known Australian, an Australian they respect or admire or, undertake a self-portrait. All of the finalists will be showcased in the lobby at Brookfield Place, Tower 1.

In 2018 the Salon des Refusés collection will be shown in Brookfield Place Tower 2. Featuring an alternative selection of artworks entered into the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture, the idea of Salon des Refusés originated in Paris in the nineteenth century when works by avant garde artists were not accepted into many mainstream exhibitions and art prizes. This let artists launching their own exhibition and eventually, achieving great success. Black Swan Prize entrants who are not selected for the Main Award will be given an opportunity to show their work in a similar spirit with members of the public able to experience the fully variety of work submitted and the talents of the artists who submitted them.
