Black Swan Prize - Salon des Refuse

Due to popular demand, in 2015 an alternative selection of artworks entered into the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture and Youth competitions will be showcased in the lobby of Brookfield Place.

The idea of the Salon des Refuses originated in Paris in the nineteenth century when works by avant garde artists were not accepted into exhibitions organised by the establishment. This led to artists mounting their own exhibitions, and eventually achieving great success. It has been decided to give Black Swan entrants who were not selected for the main award an opportunity to show their work in a similar spirit. In this way members of the public will be able to experience the full variety of works submitted, and the talents of the artists who submitted them.

The exhibition demonstrates the high standard of those works which were submitted but did not make it through to the final selection.
