Celebrate Chinese New Year at BFPL

Celebrate all the colour, excitement and tradition of the Chinese Lunar New Year at Brookfield Place with a schedule of festivities, installations and events.

Also known as Lunar New Year, this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations run from Saturday 25 January to Saturday 8 February and will welcome the Year of the Metal Rat. With a variety of cultural treats featuring throughout the precinct, you’re invited to enjoy some – or all – of the public festivities, including:

Lion Dancing Performances and Retailer Blessings
Kick off the Chinese New Year with a bang as you follow the lion on his path through the precinct, blessing tenants, visitors and guests and warding off ‘evil’ spirits. This traditional and lively spectacle of colour, noise, ceremony and dance features performers from the Ging Mo Academy and is always a highlight.

Thursday, 30 January: 6pm
Blessing of the cafés, bars and restaurants in the Heritage Buildings and Lower Heritage Lane.

Friday, 31 January: 11am
Blessing of the Brookfield Place Café Court and Main Square performance

Chinese Lanterns and Festive Art
If quiet contemplation is more your thing, stop and pause a while in the shade as you admire the colourful lanterns adorning the trees on the podium level outside Tower 1 and in Heritage Square. Other Instagram-able art installations around the precinct will include dramatic lion statues and a canopy of coloured lanterns in Georges Lane.

Fortune Cookies
Another relatively new and deliciously fun tradition will be the complimentary fortune cookies available from the concierge desks to welcome guests and visitors to Brookfield Place.
