Celebrate the 2019 Chinese new year at Brookfield Place

From 5 – 15 February, ring in the Chinese New Year with a program of festivities including art installations, performances, special offers and events that celebrate the lunar Year of the Pig.

The last animal to feature in the 12-year cycle of animals that form the Chinese zodiac, those born in years of the Pig are considered to be faithful, hardworking and kind. Plus, according to Chinese customs, 2019 being the Year of the Pig brings with it luck, good fortune, wealth and prosperity to all - even more reason for you to get involved in one, or all, of the Chinese New Year celebrations we have in store at Brookfield Place.

Traditional Lion Dance and Blessing of the Precinct
Ring in the Chinese New Year with a bang at one, or all, of the traditional Lion Dance performances that will be taking place around the precinct. Follow the lion on his path as he blesses businesses, retailers, visitors and guests and wishes them well for the year ahead. With three exciting performances this year, there’s plenty of chances for you to get involved with all the colour, noise and excitement of these popular performances by Ging Mo Academy.

Thursday 7 February
11:30am – 12:30pm
Blessing of the Brookfield Place Café Court and Main Square performance.

1:00pm – 1:30pm
Blessing of the Podium and St Georges Terrace retailers.

5:30pm – 6:30pm
Blessing of the cafés, bars and restaurants in the Heritage Buildings and Lower Heritage Lane.

Chinese Lanterns and Festive Art
If quiet contemplation is more your thing, stop and pause a while in the shade as you admire the colourful lanterns adorning the trees on the podium level outside Tower 1 and in Heritage Square. Other Instagram-able art installations around the precinct will include dramatic lion statues and a canopy of coloured lanterns in Georges Lane.

Fortune Cookies
Deliciously fun and a much-loved tradition, complimentary fortune cookies will be available from the concierge desks to welcome staff, guests and visitors to Brookfield Place.
