Winter Lights Festival 2016

This year promises a month-long festival of art and light that ignites winter through the materials of Brookfield Place. The collaborative display of artist expression and audience immersion is in the lighting, exhibitions, music, movement, and dance.

St. Georges Terrace
7 - 17 July | From 5:30 - Midnight
3D animated light installation, graphic display, and musical masterpieces are set to breathe life into the heritage façade along St. Georges Terrace. Drums and audience activation zones line the intervals to entice the audience into their own expression of sound and correlating projections. This event has been produced by Lux.

Georges Lane
7 - 9 July | 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, and 11pm
Neon Laneway transforms Georges Lane into a street-scape stage to bring audiences a fusion of the visual and physical forms, involving art pieces that glow under black lights. Butoh trained dancers then bring the art alive as they literally peel off the walls.

Ground level in front of the Tower 1 foyer
Every Thursday - 7, 14, 21, 28 July and 4 August | 6pm
Under the winter stars, opera, jazz, and contemporary artists will deliver an inspiring performance with romantic white gowns worn by the female artists, designed by acclaimed Western Australian designer, Jonté, showcasing visual light projections by VJ Zoo that complement each note. This event has been produced by North Street Music.

Tower 1 foyer
7 July - 7 August
French artist Tae Gon Kim’s ethereal work, The Dresses, is a delicate art installation of two extravagant gowns shaped by hundreds of fibreoptic strands. The illuminated fibres shimmer from the realms of fantasy and symbolise the garment’s history and transformation over time.

Ground level in front of the Tower 1 foyer
14 - 16 July | 6 - 9pm
Movement, joy, and play are awakened with the Jump Light audience interactive activity. Created by artist Ainslie Macaulay, the nine-metre long plastic cord with embedded LED lights is rotated with whimsical consistency to evoke the childlike playfulness of skipping.

Heritage Square
7 July - 7 August
Man and machine take on arts and aura to give viewers a unique interpretation of the famed Barbagallo vehicles, Q30 and Q70, with light installations displayed around the cars.

Council House, 27 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000
1 - 27 July | 6pm - 1am
A City of Perth public art initiative in which artists are commissioned to create light based works of art on Council House using the existing external lighting infrastructure. The program for 2016 consists of works by Amy Perejuan-Capone and collaborators Emma Buswell and Melissa McGrath. To read more about this event click here
